CollectionWall at Marchivum Mannheim

The Collection Wall, an immersive interactive image archive, is opening today as part of the exhibition »What does this have to do with me?« at Marchivum, the Mannheim City Archive. I developed the application on behalf of finke.media, the UI design was done in collaboration with Studio S/M/L. A big shout out to Margaret Warzecha and Daniel Finke for the great collaboration.

Visitors can playfully explore a collection of more than 5,000 individual images, galleries and films from Mannheim’s post-war decades up to the present. The images are arranged according to the themes of democracy, memory and diversity. The four large-format touchscreens in 4K resolution offer visitors an immersive experience. The application uses Particular, a GPU accelerated particle system, which I recently released on GitHub.

The exhibition aims to convey an understanding that our free democratic basic order cannot be taken for granted, but must always be defended against anti-democratic tendencies by all of us.

›Dinner at the White House‹ at the Kennedy Center

The permanent exhibition ›Art and Ideals: President John F. Kennedy‹ at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC opens to the public today!

I am thrilled and honoured to have worked with Richard The of TheGreenEyl on an installation that’s part of this exhibition: ›Dinner at the White House‹ – an interactive table, at which visitors are introduced to the historic dinners the Kennedys hosted at the White House. I collaborated on the UI design and developed the backend and frontend software.

The exhibit contains 6 touchscreen plates, through which visitors can simultaneously view the guests who dined with Kennedy in the past and also select contemporary guests they would choose to invite to a dinner at the White House today. Quotes from the invitees appear on the surface of the table suggesting the themes and connections between them.

This permanent exhibition at the living memorial to President John F. Kennedy has been designed by creative director Abbott Miller of Pentagram in collaboration with architects KieranTimberlake, consulting curator Ileen Gallagher and an advisory committee of five leading U.S. historians.

Kurt Weill Cosmos

The interactive visual archive ›Kurt Weill Cosmos‹ openend to the public yesterday as part of the new permanent exhibition at the Kurt Weill Centre in Dessau, located in the Bauhaus Masters’ House of Feininger/Moholy-Nagy.

Visitors can explore the interrelations of people, places and works and discover unexpected connections and relationships while listening to referenced tracks on the audio guide. Slideshows of record covers, stage design and photos provide further insights into the life of Kurt Weill.

Database of Hopes at Futurium Berlin

The ›Wünschespeicher‹ or ›Database of Hopes‹ is going to open to the public this Thursday, 5h September, from 7pm as part of the permanent exhibition at Futurium Berlin.

The interactive installation featuring four touchscreen terminals and a large scale 4K infinity mirror display allows visitors to enter their wishes about the future. An AI automatically checks for similarities and assigns the wishes to categories.

I took care of the frontend and backend development on behalf of ART+COM, who designed and produced the installation.

Interactive Map at ProPotsdam

An interactive map shows the real-estate projects of ProPotsdam of the past 20 years.

The projects can be filtered by year, area, type, status, investment volume. Users can explore the districts of Potsdam and find out more about the company.

A custom content management system was developed for the editing of the projects.

On permanent display in the foyer of the headquarters of ProPotsdam.

Forgotten Heritage – Visual Database of European Avant-Garde Artworks

Forgotten Heritage, the interactive online application we were working on for the past months is now live.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the world of avant-garde artists from Poland, Estonia, Croatia, France and Belgium, who were active in the second half of the 20th century. The visual archive opens up a fascinating network of works, artists and places of action.

Using state of the art web technologies like React.js, d3.js and pixie.js, the application lets people interact with archival data in new ways and make hidden connections graspable.

Forgotten Heritage is based on The Visual Archive, which facilitates the display of digital collections and datasets.

Interactive map of the UAE part of the exhibition ›Untold Stories Retold‹ in Abu Dhabi

The interactive map ›The Emirati National House‹, which I had developed for the National Pavilion of the UAE at the Venice Biennale 2016, is going to be on display for the first time in the UAE as part of the exhibition ›Untold Stories Retold‹ at Warehouse421, Abu Dhabi.

It provides insights into the geography and landscape of the UAE, as well as the diversity in typology of the Emirati National House, also know as the Sha’abi (folk) housing model, applied across the Emirates.

On a 65″ 4K resolution touchscreen multiple visitors can simultaneously zoom in to neighborhoods to examine their qualities and view photographs documenting the unique features of the Sha’abi houses.

Public opening: Wednesday, 7 March, 6 pm

Generative LED wall display for Mann+Hummel

A custom control software was developed for a 17 x 5 m LED wall, which is the central element of the new corporate museum of filter manufacturer Mann+Hummel in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

The application facilitates the display of generative animations, bar and line charts as well as a world map, which highlights the global locations of the company. It features an intuitive timeline editor for the design and arrangement of the content. Besides the DMX output for the LED display, the software also controls the sound and the neon lights.

The animations were designed in collaboration with TheGreenEyl, Berlin.

Interactive Map of the UAE at Venice Biennale

A high-resolution interactive multitouch map was developed for the National Pavilion of the United Arab Emirates at the 15th international architecture exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia.

It provides insight into the geography and landscape of the UAE, as well as the diversity in typology of the Emirati National House, also know as the Sha’abi (folk) housing model, applied across the Emirates.

The exhibition is open to the public from May 28 until November 27, 2016.
