Interactive table at Hersbruck/Happurg documentation site

The Hersbruck/Happurg documentation site records the history of the second largest satellite camp of the Flossenbürg concentration camp. It consists of two modules: one in Hersbruck, the former camp, and another one in Happurg, the former place of forced labor.

The Hersbruck module features a panoramic video of the surroundings of Hersbruck and a large multitouch table. It displays the names of all the 9,000 known prisoners from all over Europe who were held captive there between July 1944 and April 1945. 90 representative biographies featuring stories, animated quotes and images can be explored. The interactive display was designed and programmed by Markus Lerner in collaboration with Bertron Schwarz Frey, Berlin/Ulm, who created the exhibition architecture for the documentation site.

The documentation site Hersbruck/Happurg is opening to the public on Monday, 25th January.

Multi-screen installation ‘Wortarbeit’ at Grimmwelt Kassel

wortarbeit_screen_eingabe_neu2

The new Grimmwelt Kassel shows the faceted œvre of the Brothers Grimm and unfolds the impact of their work until today and in the future.

In collaboration with TheGreenEyl, Markus Lerner developed and interactive installation called “Wortarbeit”. In reference to the famous German Dictionary (1838–1854/1961) by the Brothers Grimm the installation attempts to capture the visitors’ associations with words. Within a predefined set of formulas (word connections), one word has to be explained by another word entered by the visitor. The results is a chain that grows endlessly word by word, which can be explored in multiple ways.

The Grimmwelt Kassel is open to the public from 5h September 2015.

Markuslerner.com website relaunch

new-portfolio-website

I finally relaunched my interaction design portfolio website: markuslerner.com

It starts off with a minimalistic responsive fullscreen slideshow. Detailed information about each project can be accessed via the plus button. The Menu disappears after an idle timeout in order to keep the look clean and simple.

The programming is based on the amazing Touchfolio wordpress theme by Dmitry Semenov and is powered by WordPress, jQuery, ModernizrExCanvastween.jsRoyalSliderGoogle Webfonts (Raleway), Fontello.

A big thank you to all my clients and collaborators for making these projects possible.

Mendelssohn-Effektorium at Mendelssohn-Haus Leipzig

mendelssohn2

After a ten months of renovation and extension, the Mendelssohn-Haus Leipzig, opened again featuring an interactive orchestra I developed on behalf of WHITEvoid.

Visitors can select one of the works of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and conduct the virtual orchestra or choir by moving the coductor’s baton. Voice groups can be controlled individually and different room situations can be set. The installation also allows one to compare modern and historical instruments.

The museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Odersun Solar Module Designer online

The new Solar Module Designer for the German solar module manufacturer Odersun just went live. It was developed by Markus Lerner in collaboration with Plural Kilian Krug (Concept/Design).

It allows you to create customized modules for building facades by interactively changing the shape via drag & drop. The solar cells are dynamically fitted in order to achieve the best enery output. The layout of the cells can also be adjusted in order to create a unique look. Front- and backside colour printing can be applied as well as various types of glazing.

The results can be saved in the online gallery or exported as pdf or dxf files.

A large touch screen version of the Solar Module Designer is currently on display at the Intersolar Europe in Munich. An iPad version of the designer will be available at the App Store soon.
