Odersun Solar Module Designer online

The new Solar Module Designer for the German solar module manufacturer Odersun just went live. It was developed by Markus Lerner in collaboration with Plural Kilian Krug (Concept/Design).

It allows you to create customized modules for building facades by interactively changing the shape via drag & drop. The solar cells are dynamically fitted in order to achieve the best enery output. The layout of the cells can also be adjusted in order to create a unique look. Front- and backside colour printing can be applied as well as various types of glazing.

The results can be saved in the online gallery or exported as pdf or dxf files.

A large touch screen version of the Solar Module Designer is currently on display at the Intersolar Europe in Munich. An iPad version of the designer will be available at the App Store soon.

Interactive Research Table at Erik Spiekermann Retrospective

forschungstisch1

In recognition of Erik Spiekermann being awarded the German Design Award for his outstanding contribution to Design in Germany, the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin will be exhibiting an extensive body of his work.

We are pleased to display our interactive research table at the show. The multi-touch interface offers an insight into Erik Spiekermann’s network of partners – visualizing relations between them and a multitude of works.

The table was developed by the designers network Plural (Kilian Krug und Severin Wucher in cooperation with Markus Lerner).

Interactive Berlin map in the Red Town Hall, Berlin

On 26 January the Governing Mayor, Klaus Wowereit, inaugurated the table in the foyer of the Berlin town hall.

On 26 January the new interactive “Be Berlin” table in the Berlin Town Hall (Rotes Rathaus) was inaugurated by the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit. The table in the shape of the city of Berlin shows sights and stories of the Be Berlin campaign on a satellite map. Visitors can explore facts and figures and zoom into places like the Brandenburg Gate, the Olympic stadium or the new Airport Berlin Brandenburg International (BBI). The ART+COM patented multitouch surface enables many users to explore the content at the same time.
I created the screen design and the programming at ART+COM together with Felix Hardmood Beck (exhibition design/draft/consulting) and Hermann Klöckner (consulting).
This saturday evening the installation is open to the public during the Long Night of Museums. Felix and me are going to be there throughout the evening from 6pm to 2am in the night to answer your questions. We’re looking forward to seeing you there! Who can’t make it on saturday night or doesn’t happen to be in Berlin, can have a look at the table on each day the Town Hall is open to the public.

3D image search

3D Photo View3D Photo View is a new intuitive image browser for viewzi.com.

Viewzi is a new and highly visual way to search. Being one of the search options, 3D photo view is a whole new approach to image search, allowing you to place several searchfields in a 3D space. The image results will get arranged around and between the searchfields. The engine also displays images related to several searchfields and related tags.

OSRAM Reactive Sparks

osram_reactive_sparksI just created a new display for OSRAM Seven Screens in Munich on behalf of ART+COM, Berlin. OSRAM Seven Screens is an installation of seven double-sided vertical screens in front of the OSRAM main office in Munich, next to the highway „Mittlerer Ring“, one of the most congested roads in Munich and Germany.

For the display Reactive Sparks, the traffic on the street is tracked in real-time; each car creates a spark which moves across the screens. The Waves in the lower part of the display represent the amount of traffic in the past few minutes. More traffic results in higher waves with faster movement. The installation conveys the idea of energy and movement and translates it into a visual representation. The warm colours create a warm spot in the gray winter landscape. The display will run until April 2008.

I designed the display in collaboration with ART+COM and realized the programming in Java and OpenGL.

The design and project management was done by Mutabor, Hamburg.

Update: The MyFaves Icon Generator won the IF Award for Communication Design and the Red Dot Award in 2008.

Outerspace at Ars Electronic Center

0_outerspace_rebuildMy colloborator Andre Stubbe and me took our robot, Outerspace, through a long process of enhancement. After an extensive reconstruction with 3D modelling software, the new hinges were made from Delrin with a state-of-the-art 5-achsis CNC machine.

From 1 May 2007, the new improved Outerspace will be part of the permanent exhibition at the Museum of the Future, part of the Ars Electronica Center, Linz, Austria.

You can interact with the robot in the RoboLab on the first floor. It is part of the theme field „With all Senses“. The new location of the Ars Electronica Center in Graben 15 in the heart Linz town, Austria. The opening week starts on May 16, 2007.
