Interactive Research Table at Erik Spiekermann Retrospective

In recognition of Erik Spiekermann being awarded the German Design Award for his outstanding contribution to Design in Germany, the Bauhaus Archive in Berlin will be exhibiting an extensive body of his work.

We are pleased to display our interactive research table at the show. The multi-touch interface offers an insight into Erik Spiekermann‘s network of partners – visualizing relations between them and a multitude of works.

The table was developed by the designers network Plural (Kilian Krug und Severin Wucher in cooperation with Markus Lerner).

Gotham typeface

After a long time, the name of a great new typeface I used to catch sight of quite often, was wispered to me: Gotham, by the foundry Hoefler & Frere-Jones. EasyJet uses it for the headlines in it flight magazine, for example, and it seems to be used quite often especially in the UK area.

Calvert Font

Yeah, i just got to know another nice typeface: Calvert, again by Margaret Calvert, cut in 1980. Its a nice slab serif typeface, which is used for the corporate design of The Helen Hamlyn Research Centre e.g.

Transport Font

Finally i’ve found the typeface of London’s street signs. It’s called Transport and was created by Margaret Calvert and Jock Kinneir in 1963. I love this font, though you see it quite often here.

Some might recognize a slight resemblance to two of my really favourite typefaces, DIN 1451 (German Standard Committee, 1936), which is used for the German transport system and the improved version FF DIN (Albert-Jan Pool, 1995). The roundish letters of “Transport” like C,O,Q are much rounder tough than those of “DIN”, but in a nice way.
